I don’t know about you, but when a new year unfurls its wings, I get this refreshing sense of renewal. I just want to hop on those wings and soar even higher in my career. To boil it down to a single word, it’s all about improvement. I like to recommit to improving and becoming the best Realtor I can be.
But, the big question that always rear its head and look me straight in the eye is, how? Like how do I become better as a real estate agent? I care so much to lose my clients but how do I make them stay with me as well as offer the services that best suits them?
To borrow the words from Jim Rohn,“Work hard at your job and you can make a living. Work hard on yourself and you can make a fortune.” But, if you ask me I don’t want to just work hard, I want to work hard and be productive.
I have seen so many years come and go in my career life and I have experimented several ways to be better at my job which I would like to share with you. They worked for me and I believe they would work for you also.
- Study and learn from top agents:
Most of the frequent questions high-achievers are asked during an interview is “Who do you look up to?”. This question is very relevant if you desire to be better at your job. Learning from others is precisely how the human race has come as far as it has. You don’t only learn from others; you improve on what you have learnt from them. It’s about taking what you find and then taking it a small step farther.
It is important to identify someone who is succeeding in the Real Estate business and begin to learn from that person. Success begins with first learning before performing. You can’t act if you have nothing directing you. The more you can observe, the better. Then, begin brainstorming how you can add just a little more to your game.
- Locate your support system:
In the last award show you watched or attended, I’m pretty such you heard this statement from the winners “I dedicate this award to my loved ones who have been with me through all”. This proves a point that we all need people to help us in one way or the other. Scripturally, God told Moses to work with Aaron to rescue the Israelites from the hands of the Egyptians. Moses needed Aaron, so also we need the right people around to help push us forward or achieve a goal.
Take time to think about people around you who might be able to help you improve in 2018: your boss, a professional coach and the aforementioned role model are all good places to start.
- Develop an insatiable appetite for feedback and gobble it up every chance you get.
One of the renowned business guru, Ken Blanchard is credited with saying it best: “Feedback is the breakfast of champions.” There is a need to always get feedback from people you trust. Surround yourself with people who aren’t afraid to tell you the truth and invite them to give it to you at every turn. This is way different from criticism. Seeking feedback is a way to know what, where and how to be better at something. If you desire to improve on your performance in 2018, then you should learn to seek feedbacks from people who practically know you and understand your objectives.
Becoming the best is never just about you. It is about the people you intend to reach out to. You need to understand that every adjustment you make affects people around you. Have you noticed the common denominator in this article? It’s people: people you emulate, people.
Putting all these into consideration, 2018 is sure going to be an excellent year for you in your career. Real Estate is a very lucrative business and but it takes more than just business tips to succeed at it.
