Upon completing the real estate training and feeling very pumped up, many new agents expect they will be ready to sell real estate. It is a very reasonable expectation, I felt that way too. Moreover, you are officially qualified.

However, the bridge between being “qualified” and “successful” can take a long time to cross. Most new agents do not realize how difficult it is to stand out and be successful among the roughly 40,000 Realtors in the metropolis of Lagos.

The road to real estate success is not a short one, but there are many lessons to learn from those who have been there before and those who are still in it.

As a new agent, you are bombarded with different ways of doing things, at the end of the day, you just have to do things that play on your own talents, and keep pushing yourself to succeed. Many new agents have some applicable experience from careers in other industries, and can demonstrate skills that can help them out in their new field.

Most importantly, though, new agents must be prepared with market knowledge. Understanding the market and its trends can help you gain confidence. Keeping up to date with trends, news, and techniques is important. You should know that the life force of any real estate agent’s business is leads, and all efforts you make must support lead generation.

Looking back on my real estate beginnings, the big surprise was the lack of focus as to lead generation, which is the most important, at first I did not understand how crucial it is to build your database continuously. After all, one never knows when a contact will need a real estate agent. I really encourage all agents to dream big and approach each day, as it is a new opportunity.

It is true that new agents learn quite a bit by doing the exact thing they are told to do by people, that way mistakes are unavoidable.

Nevertheless, i encourage you to pursue all knowledge. Educate yourself as much as you can about the industry and the process through books etc, Attend trainings as much as you can. “Never think you know everything.”

Real Estate Success is a State of Mind

“It all starts with the mindset,”

Have a commitment to the business, have integrity. Dream big, and do not have limiting beliefs.”

Sometimes, you will need to come up with creative new ways to create up leads. The more knowledge you have, the more materials you have to work will go a long way when it is time to go back to re-strategize.

I realised that when you really commit yourself to a career and have the “everything real estate” mindset, and you commit more than 30-hour a week, you will definitely experience growth. “As a new agent, you should go to bed thinking of real estate, dreaming of real estate and waking up to real estate,  keep asking yourself, How can I do better? What am I doing wrong?

The right mindset is important, but there are strategies that new agents should employ to build up a profitable real estate business, Take advantage of available tools. For instance, if you choose to align with a company with strong marketing resources, you should take full advantage of all mediums available to you. Flyers, videos, website, branding and other necessary material needed.

Be up to date with technology, every agent at minimum should have a presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but tech-savvy agents should always keep an eye out for new ways to connect with potential clients.  All that networking is for nothing if contact information is mismanaged or just kept aside.  Keep leads moving through the sales funnel, Engage your leads and turn them to clients {follow up}, Be your clients voice and watch your sales improve.
